RILEY BIG FOUR 2,5 litre SPECIAL

Full restoration / rebuilt completed in 2000 on a late 1937 1,5 litre Riley Kestrel chassis with aluminium body from Pitney.

Technical Description:
1937 (1938 model year) 1,5l-Riley Kestrel chassis, Chassis No.: 28K7529, original length, engine moved backwards, open propeller shaft
2,5l Riley RM engine, completely rebuilt in 2006/07 by the company H.M.H. in Germany with new pistons, rods, counterweighted crankshaft, bearings, new clutch etc.

Now 2000 km after engine rebuilt driven without any problems. Engine will start cold/warm immediately.
Modern electric fuel pump and electric fan so this Riley can be used in any conditions and withstands even long "traffic jams" at vintage Rallyes in hot weather. Rebuilt costs > 20.000 €, receipt available.
Riley 4-speed-RM-gearbox (gears 2,3,4 synchromesh type, so easy to drive). Rebuilt of rear axle in 2008 with new strengthend half shafts.
Original Riley big mechanical brake drums, working very fine and strong. New wheel bearings.
Aluminium body with very nice proportions from Pitney built in 2000. Driveable for tall and small persons as well. 50 litres fuel tank good for long distance runs. Pictures from body construction at Pitney before painting available. Painted in Brooklands Green with a nice sympathically added patina.
Complete new wiring, of course 12 V electrics as every Riley, Marshall headlamps.
New 3,5 x 18" wheels, powder coated silver with Dunlop Racing tyres 5,60/6,00 - 18.
Two single seats in green leather, second backrest for bigger persons comes with the car.
Instrumentation with Smiths rev counter and speedometer, matching amp meter, oil pressure gauge and water temp. Additional big red warning light for oil temp/pressure.

Condition:
The Riley is ready to race. The body shows a nice patina with its nice green paint. It is a car for drivers, not for show goers. Small scratches in the paint shows its possibility to use it. Small dent at the back end. The Riley is German TUEV approved and registered as a Historical Vehicle. FIVA papers are possible.

Documentary:
Nearly all receipts from rebuilt available incl. from body, wheels and smaller parts...Fotos from body construction. German DEKRA certification as historic vehicle. German title.

Summary:
Very nice and easy to drive fast prewar sportscar with a very strong and reliable engine and a fantastic sound. I haved used this car on several vintage hill races like Jochpass Memorial and Eggberg and on race courses like Salzburging (Sound of Speed) and the infamous Green Hell Nuerburgring (Vintage Nuerburgring). You can drive circles around the big ones like Bentley, Lagonda and compete with the Bugattis. Also ideal for fast vintage rallies on small roads with a lot of curves.
