Alvis Grand Sport Special 1939

Alvis 12/70 special• Registration number (original) - DCL 77• Chassis no:- 15498 /Car build number 20180• Originally a rare drop head coupe by Mulliners of Birmingham - Highland Green with fawn leather and delivered new to C.K Andrews Ltd of Swansea on 24th June 1939.• Year of manufacture:- 1939•

Engine was overhauled by the previous owner in 1997 and starts on the button. The oil pressure is fine, but the oil pressure guage is faulty. I am happy for any potential purcheser to put a tester on the block to check this just as I have done.• Original speedo works fine.• Klaxton electric original 30's horn under bonnet.• Radiator restored late 90's• Gearbox overhauled by me 2 years ago and works great.• Dynamo etc all fine and car is rewired throughout.• Carbs overhauled 2 years ago.• New battery - 12v• Interior re trimmed in brown leather.• Side exhaust, manifold and silencer all in stainless steel - wrapped in heat proof 'tape'• All plating is Nickel• Dashboard in turned aluminium• New tyres - Excelsior 5.00/6.50/18• Wire wheels sandblasted and powder coated to match body colour• Brakes overhauled 2 years ago.• New style registration document records the car as:-Alvis 12/70, Date of first registration-22 06 1939, body type-sports, Cylinder capacity-1672cc, Petrol, Vin/chassis no-20180(this is the car number shown on the original build sheet and also on the original registration document photocopy), Engine number-15983, Colour-green, Number of former keepers-2 (although I believe there were more but have no evidence)• It was converted to a special at an unknown date and when I received it I had the body work completely restored and remade as neccessary by Vintage Wings of Manchester. It was all constructed from sheet steel as original with roll edged wings etc.• Correctly sprayed in Cellulose paint - Dark green M68M/K330 - T130 Cellulose• Chassis is original and not shortened with original axles and front friction shocks. Rear shocks are modern and are completely hidden - I changed them for handling improvement.• There are no indicators - all hand signals!• MOT and Tax until August 2008• Have just added an original and extremely rare racing Alvis radiator grill - it clips to the original cowl and is shown on one of the photos.
